Summer vacation is a great opportunity to spend quality time together as a family. Whether you are planning a road trip, a weekend getaway, or international travel, there are plenty of fun things to do that can bring your family closer together through shared exploration.
Below are activities and resources for parents and teens to explore together while enjoying summer fun!
Check out the Blue Stars resources menu for blogs and videos on a wide range of college planning topics. Here are a few of our favorites!
Play games focused on conversation starters. The decks below ask open-ended questions designed to get everyone talking!
Queue up a few podcasts for the car or plane ride! These are four that our students love!
Listen to the latest fiction and non-fiction best-sellers! Klara and the Sun generated a lot of interesting conversations with our students and their counselors this year.
Pro Tip:
In addition to these ideas, try asking each family member to make their own playlist to share in the car! One of our students did this a few years ago with her family, and she ended up writing about the experience of sharing music on a roadtrip in one of her excellent supplemental essays for Brown University.
Once you’re at your destination, make sure to continue the conversation during activities like hiking to visiting a museum or historic site. Making summers both fun and educational for the whole family is something you won’t regret. You’ll create lasting memories and help your child grow personally, paving the way for an excellent, enriching admissions journey down the road.
Happy Summer! And have fun :)
